Stabilize: From Survival to Steady Ground

Bridging the Gap from Survival to Stabilization

After the immediate crisis is addressed, true transformation requires something just as essential as emergency care: stability. The Stabilize pillar of the PRM Transformation Model bridges the gap between survival and lasting transformation, offering neighbors in need a safe, structured environment where healing can begin to take root.

When Chaos Gives Way to Clarity

Stabilization happens through services like the Connect Program and Next Step Work Shelter, both offering unique options away from street life. These offerings allow guests to slow down, rebuild routines, and focus on personalized goals without the constant uncertainty of homelessness. In 2025, 384 guests were served in both programs, with 167 achieving stable outcomes. It’s a powerful reminder of what happens when people are given space to breathe and begin again.

Stability Opens the Door to Transformation

James Free 17 Pdxm

“I didn’t know places like this existed.” – James

James knows firsthand how stability can open the door to transformation. After decades in the grocery business, alcoholism cost him nearly everything. When he arrived at PRM, he described himself as “a lost soul.” Yet on his first night at PRM, simple acts, a blanket, a meal, sparked something unexpected. Those moments of kindness helped James feel God’s compassion for the first time in years.

As stability took hold, James realized he needed deeper healing. With a steady foundation beneath him, he chose to enter PRM’s New Life Recovery Program. Today, he describes himself as “a kinder, gentler soul who can’t wait for tomorrow.”

Stabilize is where chaos gives way to clarity. It’s where trust is rebuilt, routines are formed, and individuals begin to believe change is possible. At PRM, stability isn’t an end goal, it’s the fertile ground where transformation grows.
